Until the late 1950s the roof structure was constructed on site to meet the size and style of each individual house. Around this time prefabricated roof trusses were introduced. They could be mass produced in factories and delivered to site much cheaper and quicker than the traditional site constructed frames. Standardisation of sizes also helped reduce costs.

The advantages in terms of cost and speed are obvious. The disadvantage for the home owner is that the posts and struts leave minimal usable space in the loft.

Loft conversion with truss roof construction often involves complete replacement of the roof. The EasyLoft solution is far quicker and less involved.
